Between getting up and nine o'clock this morning you finished eleven things.
You made a bed. You emptied a machine. You found a form, signed it, put it in a bag and put the bag by the door where you would trip over it, which is a whole system and you built it yourself in four seconds.
You answered a message that had been sitting there since Tuesday. You put a lid back on a jar. You moved a chair so a door could open.
Every one of those was a thing that was not done, and then it was done, and the doing was yours.
And you would swear, right now, with total sincerity, that you have not finished anything in weeks.
That is the thing I want to sit with, because it is not a small thing and it is not a mood. It is a broken instrument. Something is measuring your life and it is not counting most of it, and a person who is measured by a broken instrument for long enough starts to believe the reading.
The reading says: nothing gets finished around here.
The house says otherwise, loudly, all day, in a voice nobody in it has learned to hear.

Faithful in that which is least
There is a sentence of Jesus that people usually pull out of a money passage and it is really about scale.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much. (Luke 16:10, King James Version)
Notice what is being taken seriously in that sentence. The least. Not the least as a stepping stone to the much. The least as a real category of faithfulness, named first, and counted.
Heaven is apparently running a count that includes the jar lid. That is not sentimental. It is the plain sense of the line, and it is the exact opposite of the instrument in your kitchen, which counts only the much and throws away the least as noise.
Two different counts are being kept about your morning and they do not agree.
You have been faithful in eleven least things before nine in the morning, and the count that ignores them has never once been the accurate one. Luke 16:10 names the least as faithfulness rather than as a warm-up for it, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is present in a kitchen where nobody notices.
So the question stops being whether you finish things.
The question becomes why one of those two counts got installed in you, and what it costs to keep running it.
You were keeping an accurate record all along and grading yourself against a different one, and the gap between them has never once been your failing. The written word counts the least by name, and the Spirit of God is the one who is with a woman holding a jar with the lid already back on it.
Why the count went wrong
Here is what usually built it, and see whether it fits.
The things that get noticed in a house are the things that were noticeably wrong. Nobody comments on a bed that is made. Somebody comments on a bed that is not. Nobody mentions the eleven things; somebody mentions the one that got missed.
So over years, the only entries that ever made it into the ledger were the misses. The finished things went past unrecorded because nothing in the environment recorded them, and the mind does not keep books nobody audits.
That is not low self esteem. That is a filing problem with a completely rational history.
You are running a ledger built entirely out of what other people happened to remark on, and that ledger has never once been a record of your work. Luke 16:10 puts the least on the books deliberately, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is present with a woman who has been audited only on her misses.
And there is a second thing, which is scale inflation.
Somewhere along the way, finishing started to mean finishing something big. A room. A project. A whole day of it. So the eleven things stopped qualifying, not because they got smaller, but because the threshold got higher, and a threshold that keeps rising will eventually exclude everything a real person actually does in a real morning.
You have not stopped finishing things, the threshold rose until nothing qualified, and the eleven were always real. The text refuses to set a floor under faithfulness, and the Spirit of God is the one who steadies a woman who has been disqualifying her own mornings.
Counting out loud
So here is the practical half, and it is smaller than you would expect. The fix is not to do more, because there is no more to do, and eleven before nine is already the rate.
The fix is to make one of them audible. One finished thing, said out loud, in a room, today. That is the whole mechanism, and there is a reason it works that has nothing to do with positivity.
A thing said out loud gets filed. A thing thought gets lost. Your ledger was built by remarks, so a remark is what writes into it, and the remark can be yours.
It will feel ridiculous. Standing in a kitchen saying that drawer is done is a strange thing to do with your mouth and your face will know it. Do it anyway, because the strangeness is exactly the size of the gap this has been sitting in.
You are allowed to say out loud that something is finished, and saying it has never once been vanity. Luke 16:10 records the least because the least is worth recording, and the Holy Spirit is the one who is with a woman who says it in an empty kitchen and feels foolish.
And I want to name what the goal is, because it is not a tidy house.
The goal is that the instrument tells the truth. A woman who can hear her own finished things has a completely different afternoon from a woman who cannot, and the house is identical in both cases. Nothing about the room has to change for this to change.
You have an accurate account available to you today, and the state of the room has never once been what stood between you and it. The written word keeps the least on the books, and the Spirit of God is the one who is present in the four seconds it takes to say a small true sentence.
So here is what I believe is going out over a woman who would swear she has finished nothing this week.
You have finished eleven things today already, and the counting was broken and never once were you. There is no system in this and nothing here to keep up. Luke 16:10 says he that is faithful in that which is least, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who repairs an instrument that has been misreading a life.
And this, which is the word I came with:
You were never a woman who does not finish things, you were a woman whose finished things were never written down, and heaven has been keeping the other count the whole time. The text records the least deliberately, and the Spirit of God is the one who is with you in that kitchen today.
One drawer. Then say it out loud.
Declare this over yourself
- Broken count in my kitchen, you have been reading zero over a morning with eleven finished things in it. Luke 16:10 says he that is faithful in that which is least, so by the Holy Spirit I say one finished thing out loud today in the name of Jesus.
- Voice that says I never finish anything, you were built out of remarks about my misses and you were never a record of my work. The word puts the least on the books by name, and by the Holy Spirit I am done being graded by an instrument that does not count.
- Father, You wrote the least into the account on purpose and You did not make it a warm-up for anything. Your word says faithful in that which is least, so by Your Spirit I hear the true number over my own morning, and I say it out loud, and I let it be written down.
